Unfinished Family Business
31 03 2008Abdullah bin Muawiyah bin Abdullah bin Jafar bin Abi Talib rebelled against the Umayyad establishment in 126 Hijri. Apparently, the descendants of Ali and their distant cousins shared the same belief in that the Umayyads were a tyrannical force and so unfinished family business for them meant more bloodshed for the Umayyads to spill.
Abdullah bin Muawiyah was successful in conquering numerous cities such as Halwaan, Hamadaan, Qom, Asbahaan and Ar-Ray. The newly appointed governor of Iraq, Yazid bin Umar bin Hubayrah by Marwan bin Muhammad the Caliph of Umayyads in 127 Hijri, was able to deter Abdullah bin Muawiyah’s advancements and force him to flee to Khorasaan but was sadly captured by Abu Muslim Al-Khorasaani, imprisoned and executed.
By this time, the Umayyad armies were stretched thin and weakened by these unsuccessful uprisings giving way to the secret establishment of a military division of the Abbasids.
